Mission Statement
HISTORY
Horizon Institute was established in Los Angeles by a group of businesspeople and half a dozen of biblical scholars and pastors in an attempt to serve the rapidly growing communities from different cultural backgrounds in Southern California.
Prior to its incorporation, these founding figures had shown exceptional leadership and success in their fields. Those in business and entrepreneurship were very successful men and women of faith who had a vision for a Christian mission school. Meanwhile, a group of world-renowned biblical scholars (both young and old) and pastors of local churches were patiently waiting for Gods time and would soon join the other founders in this mission.
As the businesspeople shared their vision with this group of scholars and pastors, all were happy to launch the project for the formation of the school, and all bore a collaborative heart. The vision they commonly shared was to form a new Christian college providing new models for learning in that the program makes good citizens and progressive church leaders. To implement this vision, they formed a new school development committee, initially made of board members and faculty. This committee conducted a thorough, year-long feasibility study, and sought guidance from God by executing this study in concert with the element of prayer.
Staff members of Horizon Institute also actively participated in the feasibility study with particular attention to business and administrative issues. After thorough research, the new school development committee unanimously recommended that this new school be established to serve the fast growing population from different cultural backgrounds in Southern California.
First, theological education was proposed due to the high demand for such education. It was also recommended that the school continue to broaden its scope through continued development. The recommendation by the new school development committee was proposed to, and accepted by, the initial board of directors.
Horizon Institute is comprised of scholars young and old, conservative and progressive Christian, as well as church leaders, pastors and students that are from diverse denominational backgrounds of both international and American Christian churches. Horizon Institute is proud of carrying out this novel endeavor to serve the believing communities and to impact the Church through excellent programs of higher education. Horizon strives to implement these new learning models in such a way as to give glory to the Lord our God.
Horizon Institute is currently operating under a religious exemption status granted by the California Department of Consumer Affairs. It also seeks to offer state approved undergraduate and graduate degree programs and is currently pursuing approval of its programs by the State of California. Horizon Institute also seeks to obtain applicant, candidacy and full accreditation upon the graduating the first class.
